How hot will my hot water be?
On a sunny day it is not uncommon for temperatures of 70-80`c to be reached.
Will I get hot water in the winter?
Yes temperatures of 45-50`c are common, in January 08 Nu-Solar installations in Devon and Dorset reached 60`c(it was an exceptionally sunny month).
Will I get hot water when it is cloudy?
Yes you will get some solar gain when cloudy and even a small amount when overcast but at these times you will probally have to boost your hot water storage.
will solar panels heat my house?
Solar can provide some assistance when incorperated into a thermal store but because heating demand is usually when solar gain is low this is a small amount.
How much will my Installation help the enviroment?
This depends on how efficient the new system is and how efficient the old system was but in general we can say every solar domestic hot water system installed in the UK will save between 350 and 1300KG of carbon dioxide per year.
Can solar be used with a combination boiler?
In almost all cases yes but the approval of the manufacturer needs to be obtained.
How much hot water will it provide?
A well designed system will provide between 50%-70% of your hot water needs.
How big will the panels be?
You will need approx 1m2 of collector for every 50L of water.
Do i need to change my cylinder?
Yes in most cases we fit a new high efficiency solar cylinder.
Do we need a south facing roof?
South is ideal but systems can still be efficient when orientated south-west south-east or split between east/west.
Do I need planning permission?
As from April 08 most solar installations come within permitted development but listed buildings or panels mounted on `A` frames may need permission.
